Saving My Little Child From Liver Turgescence Okada
Yuki, six-year old boy. (Dictated by his mother, Japan)
On Dec. 19th of 1994, my son Yuki was born weighed
3.1kg. Three years later, Yuki happily celebrated
his three-year-old birthday. Before his three-year-old
birthday, he was healthy and happy that he even never
caught a cold. Just one month before Yuki's three-year-old
birthday, his brother was born, however, it was about
that time Yuki started to feel ill when he became
an elder brother.
Yuki started to feel ill just one month after his
three-year-old birthday, which was in January, 1998.
Then Yuki often got a fever without knowing the cause.
At that time, I thought that he just simply got a
cold so that I took him to a clinic nearby. The doctor
said the same as what I thought and prescribed some
medicine for Yuki to take; however, Yuki still didn't
get rid of the fever after taking the medicine for
several days.
Yuki
had a serious fever for two weeks and during that
time, he often said: "I feel very weak. I am
very tired". My husband and I awarded that this
time's situation was abnormal so that in March, we
decided to go to other bigger hospitals and took Yuki
to the pediatric clinic.
As
soon as the doctor had a look of Yuki's abdomen, he
immediately said that it was abnormal that he made
Yuki to have a CT examination. Soon, it was surprising
that Yuki's liver was three times bigger than the
normal one. Even a layman could judge that his liver
had a pretty big tumor.
Doctor announced that Yuki had suffered "liver
turgescence". He said to me that we should expect
to have a long-term treatment from now on that whatever
may happen, we should prepare our hearts and face
everything firmly. Hearing his words, I went totally
blank. However, since I still didn't quite understand
the whole thing that we turned to another reputable
private hospital for more help.
At
such situation, I could do nothing but to follow the
doctor's direction. I thought that it would be both
a long-term and a tough treatment. My son healthily
celebrated his birthday three months ago but was announced
that he had liver turgescence just then. Why must
he face such misfortune and tribulation? My child
shouldn't suffer such a pain, should he? I even hated
God.
The
treatment for "liver turgescence" was a
series of chemotherapy once per month, which means
that Yuki had to undertake chemotherapy for every
several days. Because the side effect of chemotherapy
was very severe, Yuki became skinnier and skinnier.
His emotion became very unstable and he even couldn't
drink any liquid. If he drunk some liquid, he would
vomit all of it. During a day of twenty four hours,
he could only have nutritious liquid to sustain his
weak life.
About
one week after chemotherapy, as the level of Yuki's
white blood cell, red blood cell, and blood platelet
all decreased; he was taken into an asepsis room which
was like the "greenhouse". He only could
use the asepsis articles. Napkin, toy, and food all
needed to be asepsis before being used.
Even when I went to visit him, I had to wear the asepsis
hat, clothes and respirator. Yuki was only a three-year-old
child. I just couldn't understand why a three-year-old
child should suffer such a pain.
Though
Yuki was still very little, he seemed to understand
his own situation. I felt so painful every time I
saw my son undertake the affliction. However, Yuki
fought the disease so bravely that as his parents,
we really shouldn't have this despair and pessimistic
feeling. We should fight with our child and face any
challenge firmly it may bring with an optimistic attitude.
During the five months of treatment, Yuki received
an average of five times chemotherapy per month. As
a result, the level of his AFP (?-fetal protein) indicator
dropped from 280 to about 30 from the time he entered
the hospital until his treatment was over that he
could finally receive the operation.
Yuki
was never able to step out of the hospital during
his treatment; however, about three days before the
operation, he was finally allowed to go out and came
home for a while.
Because
my second son had not seen Yuki for a long time, he
was frightened and cried when he saw his elder brother
with a bald head due to the side effect of chemotherapy.
In addition, Yuki was also very thin and didn't look
like a three-year-old child. Though they were brothers,
they lived differently. At that time, I stayed with
Yuki everyday in the hospital as my husband dealt
with his business. He was busy at both his work and
caring for our younger boy. In this case, we had to
let Yuki's brother live with his grandparents. In
order to make Yuki become healthy, our whole family
tried our best to get through the difficulty.
The
operation was made on July 29th. My family and relatives
all gathered in my home to pray to God. Perhaps because
of everyone's prayer, the five-hour operation was
successful. Yuki's liver was incised by seventy percent
and he persevered to the last minute in this tough
operation.
Though
it was a big operation, the tumor wasn't cleaned completely.
Hence, in less than two weeks after the operation,
on Aug. 10th, Yuki had to undertake chemotherapy again
in order to control the remaining tumor.
However, the result was not as exciting as we expected.
It is surprising that the vitality of the child is
so powerful! About two months after the operation,
the liver with seventy percent being incised grew
to a pretty big size. The doctor hence decided to
have another operation on Yuki to completely take
off the remaining tumor. The acting doctor said: "Up
until today, we never have such a case that we have
to make two consecutive operations on the same patient
within so short a time". Nevertheless, I decided
to let Yuki undergo the operation and I said to the
doctor: "The child has survived through so many
difficulties. I believe his life-force and fate were
both strong. I put my all on you."
On
October 14th, Yuki received his second operation.
Compared with the first one, though this time's operation
only dealt with a smaller part, as it was near a big
vein, it was actually more dangerous. Yuki is really
a blessed one, according to the doctor's saying, the
remaining tumor was successfully incised in the place
near the skin. When I heard of his words, the feeling
was so complicated that I couldn't find a word to
describe.
Even
though the operation was a successful one, it was
not the end of the story. Doctor said to us: "Finally,
Yuki must receive chemotherapy again within five days".
We were told that this time's therapy was stronger
than previous ones.
Three
days after chemotherapy, Yuki was taken into the asepsis
room where all the apparatus must be asepsis. Another
three days after the end of the five-day chemotherapy,
doctor used the stem cell got from Yuki's body to
carry on "twig blood dry cell transplant".
One week after the end of this time's chemotherapy,
Yuki's white blood cell level decreased to zero.
If
Yuki was unfortunate to get infected here, all the
treatments up until this point would be futile. During
this period or time, no negligence was allowed and
both Yuki and I had in mind that everyday could be
his last day.
After
all kinds of painful therapies, Yuki celebrated his
four-year-old birthday at the hospital. Several weeks
later, Yuki was allowed to check out of the hospital
but he had to go to the hospital for regular examination
from now on.
However,
his disease was not cured. After about one year out
of the hospital, his disease recrudesced. Because
there was no certain treatment for this type of disease,
we had no choice but to employ the same way as before.
On
Aug. 7th of 2000; five-year-old Yuki undertook the
operation for the third time. Three months after this
time's operation, the AFP indicator showed an increasing
trend. Yuki began to go to kindergarten in the spring
of that year, I really don't know how much more sufferings
he must bear. "Liver turgescence" is a type
of cancer that no matter how many operations you have,
it'll recrudesce in a short time. In addition, it
was unknown that when the cancer cells would transfer.
I realized that I should do something to help my boy
besides letting him relying on only western treatment,
so I tried to collect as much information as I could.
It
was at the time when I almost gave up, I finally heard
of "Tien-Hsien Liquid". Starting from January
this year, which is year 2001, I tried to let Yuki
take Tien-Hsien Liquid. Frankly speaking, at the beginning,
I didn't expect much from it. Surprisingly, after
taking Tien-Hsien Liquid, Yuki changed greatly. Before
having Tien-Hsien Liquid, Yuki only had a small appetite,
but now, he began to tell me: "I am hungry, mom,
got anything to eat? I want to have more". Such
thing was unimaginable before!
In
addition, the AFP indicator double increased every
month before, but in the examination in February,
the increasing speed of AFP indicator slowed down
obviously. Also, Yuki's blood platelet was more than
ten thousands while it was between seven to eight
thousands before.
It
was unbelievable! Yuki indeed was different from before.
I
then was confident with Tien-Hsien Liquid. In March
and April, the increasing rate of AFP decreased by
1.3 and 1.2 times. Comparing with before, Yuki's body
condition became noticeably better. He often caught
a cold and had a fever before, but now, he became
healthier, which was unbelievable!
Now,
Yuki is a first grade student in the elementary school.
He never missed a day of school ever since he attended.
And next, in the following six-year examination, the
AFP indicator decreased enormously and Yuki's blood
platelet increased to one hundred and thirty thousands.
I
always wish that Yuki could recover completely and
the tumor could disappear. Therefore, I let him take
Tien-Hsien Liquid every day.
Up
until today, I followed the doctor's direction thoroughly
and Yuki had undergone great sufferings because of
the continuous combined operation and chemotherapy.
The western treatment indeed is very advanced and
worth relying on, but I start to realize that we can't
put all the eggs in the same basket.
After
I knew about Tien-Hsien Liquid, I gradually saw the
hopeful prospect. It is so obvious that since Yuki
took Tien-Hsien Liquid, he became healthier than before.
Therefore, I will continue to let him take Tien-Hsien
Liquid. All I want to do is just to help my son.
At
